Pools of warmth and renewal filled with bodies, bathing in the remnants of the colony, cars, combustion engines, oil, and steel, reclaimed and reimagined as vessels for community care and connection.

Comprising of five bathing structures built from wrecked cars, waynapuni pools (2025) will host 12 bathing sessions between 13th and 18th of November, inviting audiences into an immersive experience of transformation and care, co-led by artists, cultural facilitators, and young First Nations hosts.

---

Developed over 8 months, artist Benjamin Paul, together with a team of First Nation facilitators, has worked with 28 First Nations students at Montrose Bay High to transform car wrecks into functional bathing structures, saunas, spas and steam rooms.

In partnership with Karadi Aboriginal Corporation, students have explored stories of palawa culture and Country through the theme of water as a cleansing force, a connector, and a carrier of knowledge. Together, they’ve imagined futures beyond fossil fuels, designing new spaces and practices that center care, cultural strength, and respect for Country
